Dr. Thomas Valesky: April 2015 FGCU Author Series Honoree

Congratulations to Dr. Thomas Valesky, our 24th honoree in the FGCU Author Series of recently published books authored or edited by FGCU faculty and staff!  Organizational Behavior in Education: Leadership and School Reform (2015), co-authored by Robert G. Owens, Professor Emeritus at Hofstra University and Dr. Valesky, will be featured on the Library website during the month of April and displayed on a poster on the first floor of Library West in the FGCU Authors and New Books area.

Dr. Valesky is currently a professor and program leader for the Department of Educational Leadership at Florida Gulf Coast University. Previously, he served as a professor and program leader for Educational Leadership at the University of South Florida—Ft. Myers (1993-1997), and professor and then chair of the Department of Educational Administration and Supervision at the University of Memphis (1984-1993).  At the University of Memphis, he was also a senior researcher and team leader for the Tennessee state-sponsored Center for Research in Educational Policy (CREP), studying school-based decision-making and school finance.  His work with CREP resulted in co-authorship of two books: Training for School-based Decision Making (Scarecrow Press, 2003); *and Challenge to Change: The Memphis Experience with School-based Decision Making (Technomics Publishing, 1994). In addition, he has written 31 refereed journal articles (published in such journals as *Journal of Education Finance, Exceptional Children, and the National Forum of Educational Administration and Supervision Journal), *30* program evaluations and policy reports, 63 scholarly papers presented at national and regional conferences, and three interactive online simulations. Each month a recent book authored by FGCU staff or faculty is selected, presented by an accompanying poster, and featured on the Library’s website. Everyone is encouraged to view the display of our FGCU authors’ recent works. Any of the Author Series books in the General Collection are available for check out.  FGCU faculty and staff are encouraged to notify the relevant subject specialist if they publish a book.
