Congratulations to Johnny McGaha, Ph.D., our 39th honoree in the FGCU Author Series of recently published books authored or edited by FGCU faculty and staff. Dr. McGaha’s book, Trafficked, will be featured on the Library website during the month of November and displayed on a poster on the first floor of Library West in the FGCU Authors and New Books area.
Dr. Johnny McGaha earned his B.S. and M.A. at the College of Criminal Justice, Sam Houston State University and Ph.D. at State. He joined the faculty at Southeast Missouri State University in 1985 where he rose to the rank of tenured Professor in 1993. He received the Outstanding Service Award for the College of Health and Human Services in 1990 and outstanding researcher in 1992. Dr. McGaha served as Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and graduate coordinator at SEMO until he was offered the opportunity to join Florida Gulf Coast University as the founding Chairperson of the new Criminal Justice Program in 1997.
During his tenure at FGCU he has served as Department Chair, Director of the School of Public and Social Services, Founding Dean of the College of Public Services and Dean of the College of Professional Studies. He is currently serving as Professor of Justice Studies and Program Leader for the Masters of Criminal Justice Program.
Dr. McGaha's recent research interest is in the field of Human Trafficking where he has served as consultant and co-chair to the Regional Task Force on Human Trafficking and program evaluator for numerous local Department of Justice Grants. In 2008 he was chosen to accompany a team of Department of Justice and Homeland Security Professionals to Moldova, Eastern Europe to conduct Task Force Development at the newly established Center to Combat Trafficking in Persons (CCTIP). He has made national and international presentations on Human Trafficking and has published several articles on the topic.
Each month a recent book authored by FGCU staff or faculty is selected and placed on display with an accompanying poster on the first floor of Library West in the FGCU Authors and New Books area. The author and book are also featured on the Library’s website, news blog, and Facebook page. FGCU faculty and staff are encouraged to notify the relevant subject specialist librarian if they publish a book.
