Michael Salmond, M.F.A.: April 2018 FGCU Author Series Nominee

Congratulations to Michael Salmond, M.F.A., our 54th honoree in the FGCU Author Series of recently published books authored or edited by FGCU faculty and staff. Mr. Salmond’s book, Video Game Design: Principles and Practices From the Ground Up, will be featured on the Library website during the month of April and displayed on a poster on the first floor of Library West in the FGCU Authors and New Books area.

Michael Salmond is currently Associate Professor of Digital Media Design at Florida Gulf Coast University. He received his B.Sc. in MediaLab Arts from Plymouth University, UK and his MFA from the University of South Florida.

Michael has exhibited his work nationally, internationally and online. He has published scholarly papers on video gaming and new media and has an active record of panel participation at conferences such as the College Art Association and Siggraph. Michael has appeared on National Public Radio in Florida and Wisconsin and is currently researching videogames and their positive effects on aging.

His book, “The Fundamentals of Interactive Design” published by AVA/Bloomsbury was released in March of 2013. Michael’s next book focuses on Videogame Level Design. It is due to be published in the US in 2019.

Each month a recent book authored by FGCU staff or faculty is selected and placed on display with an accompanying poster on the first floor of Library West in the FGCU Authors and New Books area. The author and book are also featured on the Library’s website, news blog, and Facebook page. FGCU faculty and staff are encouraged to notify the relevant subject specialist librarian if they publish a book.
