Barry Rosen, Ph.D.: October 2020 FGCU Author Series Nominee

Congratulations to Barry Rosen, Ph.D., our 75th honoree in the FGCU Author Series of recently published books authored or edited by FGCU faculty and staff. Dr. Rosen’s book Catalog of Microscopic Organisms of the Everglades Part 2—The Desmids of the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge will be featured on the FGCU Library’s digital media channels during October 2020 and displayed on a poster on the first floor of Library West in the FGCU Authors and New Books area.

Dr. Barry Rosen has worked on algae and cyanobacteria for over four decades, with emphasis on physiological ecology. In August, 2019, he joined the faculty in the Water School at FGCU as a World Class Scholar and Full Professor. He is involved in several research projects including a detail look at bloom dynamics in Lake Okeechobee. He recently published: Cyanobacteria of the 2016 Lake Okeechobee and Okeechobee Waterway harmful algal bloom; Nitrogen limitation, toxin synthesis potential, and toxicity of cyanobacterial populations in Lake Okeechobee and the St. Lucie River Estuary, Florida, during the 2016 state of emergency event; and Understanding the effect of salinity tolerance on cyanobacteria associated with a harmful algal bloom in Lake Okeechobee, Florida-all available on-line.

Throughout the year, a recent book authored by FGCU staff or faculty is selected and recognized in a variety of ways. FGCU faculty and staff are encouraged to notify the relevant subject specialist librarian if they publish a book.
